  • The first step is a parent or carer consultation via telehealth. This allows you to share important information about your child without them feeling uncomfortable or overhearing the discussion.

Next is the initial assessment session. Your speech pathologist will first spend time building rapport with your child to help them feel at ease. Then, they will conduct a range of assessments tailored to your concerns and your child’s needs.

The assessment process may take 2–3 sessions, depending on factors like your child’s attention span and the type of assessments required. It’s difficult to predict the exact timeframe until we begin.

After the assessment is complete, we’ll provide you with a detailed report outlining the results and any recommendations for therapy, if needed. Therapy sessions can start once the assessment results have been discussed with you.

  • The initial assessment helps your speech pathologist understand your child’s strengths and areas where they might need support. This information is used to set clear goals for therapy sessions.

You will also receive a detailed report summarising the results of the assessment and recommendations. According to Speech Pathology Australia, every assessment must include a report to ensure all important information is documented.
